How to apply Kleeftaal

The design is made up of three layers, in the following order:

  • white backing sheet – this will be thrown away
  • cut-outs – the vinyl layer – this will stick to the wall
  • transparent transfer sheet – also to be thrown away

1. Clean surface.

  1. Be sure that the surface you are applying the Kleeftaal to is smooth, dry and free of dust and dirt.
  2. Kleeftaal can be applied to walls, wood, glass, concrete, metal or any smooth, dry surface.
  3. Kleeftaal is removable but cannot be repositioned or re-used.
  4. DO NOT apply on freshly painted walls – wait at least 2 weeks after painting.
  5. DO NOT apply on cold, rainy/wet days, as the vinyl will not stick to the wall.

2. Prepare Kleeftaal

  1. Lay Kleeftaal design on a flat surface, transfer sheet up.
  2. Remove any air bubbles by rubbing from the centre outwards.
  3. Cut your design into smaller pieces to make application more manageable.
  4. Arrange all Kleeftaal pieces on the wall, transfer sheet facing you, white backing sheet against the wall, sticking it in place with masking tape.
  5. DO NOT remove the white backing paper until you are happy with your layout.

3. Apply Kleeftaal

  1. Loosen the masking tape on one side of the piece you are working with. Carefully pull off the backing sheet and put the design back in place, with the vinyl now against the surface, making sure that transfer sheet still sticks to the vinyl.
  2. Rub across the transfer sheet with your hand, slowly at first, then harder with hand or credit card.
  3. Once air bubbles have been removed, carefully pull off the transfer sheet, making sure that the vinyl decal is sticking to your surface and not to the transfer sheet.
  4. Bubbles naturally form under vinyl, especially on glass and mirrors. The best way to remove little bubbles that couldn’t be rubbed out from under your vinyl, is by using a fine-needled straight pin or safety pin. Just poke a little hole, and smooth it down with your fingers.

4. Remove Kleeftaal

  1. Simply loosen a corner and peel it off the surface, or if the vinyl is a bit stubborn, you can use a hairdryer to warm up the adhesive, which will allow the decal to come off more easily.
  2. If some glue still remains on the wall, you can remove it with soap and water or a product called Rubbit Vinyl Glue Remover.
